Soil erosion + sediment control, Central Tablelands, NSW

Bathurst, Mount Panorama, NSW 2795

In an area just below the famous “Brock’s Skyline” on the Mount Panorama Race Circuit natural water flow gullies were creating a problem with soil erosion and sediment run-off into private properties below.

Bathurst Council engaged neweraTotal to provide a solution and implement the works.  [This is also part of major weed control and management project by newera for Bathurst Council.]

A series of strategically positioned coir logs would alleviate the erosion and sediment problems. [Coir logs consist of a roll of coir and organic coconut fibre that’s enclosed in a robust coir mesh webbing. Coir logs are an excellent option for erosion and sediment control.  They provide protection while vegetation establishes and takes over the long term stabilisation.]

Access to each gully presented logistical problems when handling the coir erosion control logs and anchoring stakes down the steep hillsides to each of the 14 locations where they were installed. The natural area is home to a very inquisitive mob of kangaroos who call this place home. In some instances they made it easier for the team, as the whole area is traversed with well used wildlife trails which proved very useful for safe access and descent.
